Welcome to New Beginnings Doula Training
We are excited that you have chosen New Beginning for your doula training and certification! We look forward to your learning experience with us, the contributions that you will make to our online student community, and the impact that you will soon make in the real-world community where you live.
New Beginnings is committed to developing and nurturing quality doulas. In order to do this, we strive to be the defining standard for doula education. This includes a commitment to the client, the community, and the birth team. It involves utilizing the passion a doula can bring to a birth, combined with a solid foundation in evidence-based care, skills, and collaboration with other team members.
First Steps
In order for doulas to learn all the skills needed to work in a team-building, advocacy role, some studies have suggested that online learning may be a more beneficial route to take than the traditional, weekend workshops. Distance education does prēsent its own set of challenges though. Ultimately, you are responsible for your own learning. Yet we are here to guide you through the process and to provide you with the community and support you need.
Developing a time management strategy has been identified as one of the most useful tools online students can use in order to be successful in their education. The following is a checklist to help you be organized as you work through our program.
- Watch:
- Login in to https://www.google.com/calendar to make your own calendar
- Read syllabus.
- Ask to join the student Facebook page.
- Plan weekly study times. Set one goal each week and how you will meet it. In your new calendar, plan times to log into coursework (even if you aren’t doing a whole lot of work) or student Facebook page three times per week. If you would like to be a part of our student mentorship plan, contact your trainer for more information.
